“Girl Model” Filmmakers Seek Help With Educational Outreach
You may be aware that I’m a fan of Girl Model, a new documentary from David Redmon and Ashley Sabin (whose Invisible Girlfriend has appeared on Documentary Channel in the past) about teenage recruits from Siberia seeking successful modeling careers in Japan. I caught the stunning and sometimes strange film almost a year ago at Toronto and have been blogging about it here and there ever since. Now I’d like to highlight the film’s Kickstarter campaign.
Let me note that I normally don’t promote crowdfunding efforts, if only because most films are at a stage where I’m incapable of honestly getting behind them as an advocate (occasionally I post on a film in the works that looks appealing without directly shilling for their campaign). But a film that I have seen and love is one I can fairly support. Besides, Girl Model is already finished and also has a distributor (First Run Features) and an official release date of September 5.
