Most of us don’t think twice when it comes to having a soft drink every now and then. But what happens when those drinks become part of our everyday diet? And what happens when they become staples of children’s diets? Not only does this video highlight the dangers of consuming too many sugary foods and drinks, but it rightly calls out how often low-income families end up spending what little they have on these junk food products because they don’t have access to healthier options. The consequences are heartbreaking and pretty terrifying.
Oh! One more thing. While it’s important to encourage people to make healthy food-and-drink choices, it’s also important to remember that everyone has control over their own bodies and should be respected as such. Healthy options and education should be the goal when talking about diabetes prevention, not policing what anyone else eats or drinks. OK, good talk.

The Gay Women’s Channel recorded a couple of youngsters talking about marriage and then lip-synched the whole conversation. It’s amazing how kids, unencumbered by cultural norms, will make more sense than most adults.

A group called Connecticut Working Mom’s has put together an AMAZING photo spread called “Lets End The Mommy Wars”. The photo shoot was about embracing their different parenting choices.
“Let’s end the mommy wars, once and for all, by tapping into our compassion and letting go of our judgments. Cause seriously people, the world needs more love and less judgment.”

Could a creeping focus on profits and less on the middle class (and middle-class parents!) in America be a reason no one noticed it got more expensive (for EVERY level of income person, BTW) in America to do the very basic life-thing of raising a child?

Here’s a nice children’s book about a regular old family. It’s a great story for all kids, and it’s also an option for parents who want to talk to their children about same-sex couples/families but aren’t sure where to begin.

Here’s the thing. There are these things called breasts. They are body parts. They serve many functions. Sometimes, they feed babies. That part is pretty important.
When a woman is breastfeeding, she is not trying to offend you with her breasts. She is giving life-sustaining food to her child. Do you really want her to have to do that behind closed doors — especially if those closed doors are the doors of a nasty public bathroom stall?

True story: $671 million are spent on Mother’s Day cards every year, and billions are spent on flowers, dinner, etc. And hey! That’s thoughtful, important, and probably even delicious. But what if those cards could do more by making sure women have safe births and actually get to be mothers? These can.
