When the lights come on in a culture or even just a little village, often there is no way to turn them back off. It’s happened in nearly every corner of every country of the world, and sometimes, it has to happen over and over again until it sticks. Because yeah, there really is no going back.

It was said 24 years ago, and same kind of thoughts have been spoken many times before through the history. Despite that, some politicians, drunk with power, don’t just realise which choice is better.

Comedian Jamie Kilstein thinks we shouldn’t joke about violence against women. That view got him notably shunned from the comedy community; other famous comedians weighed in, called him names, it was a whole thing. As a result, he lost a TV deal, promotional gigs, and friends — all because he said rape jokes are bad.
